What’s an Energy X-Ray?

Everybody’s talking about energy conservation. From efficiencies to fuel type and renewable options, from rising costs to living in a comfortable and healthy living environment.

After years of re-modeling both new and historic homes, Hudson Valley Preservation has the “home” advantage in finding solutions to improve your home. We investigate all problems with extreme prejudice- developing fixed costs before the work is started. Advanced planning pays.

Falling insulation due to condensation
Ever insulate a crawl space and have it fall off due to condensation?

We call our program an Energy X-Ray. Here’s how it works:

1. You’ve got problems and you call Hudson Valley Preservation. You tell us what’s happening and your best guess at what’s needed. We create a job outline. We write it up.

2. Home visit. We verify the scope of what we discussed. What’s the area look like? Together, we decide on a course of action - either repair or further testing. We sign an X-Ray agreement.

3. The Energy X-Ray is done and a detailed visual log of findings generated for you.

4. We meet to present the facts and prioritize the agreed-upon remediation.

5. Home improvement: After the scope of the work and a fixed price are accepted, an agreement is signed and the work begins. Your house is on the smart path to recovery without surprises!

Hand held thermal imaging deviceAn Energy X-Ray includes:

An energy audit brings technology to bear on identifying heat loss- using infrared imaging and blower door testing. A failure to know exactly where and how the loss occurs can lead to hugely expensive window replacements- the “right” fix might be something far less aggressive. Heat loss photography (infrared) colorizes the areas where the most heat is exiting your house. Nothing is left to the imagination!

A structural science assessment looks inside the walls of your home, the quality of the insulation, siding condition and how various structural elements fit together (or not). When floors sag, and walls shift over time, new spaces open up- allowing warm air out and cold air in.

Moisture management issues impact energy efficiency. A very well insulated home can cause moisture problems that create unhealthy air quality and even structural deterioration- in places you can’t see, until real damage has been done.

Once your home has been through the Energy X-Ray Process, we guarantee you’ll have the right information to select the best solutions for your home. But hurry, winter is fast approaching. When you sign up for an X-Ray, you can choose one of two energy-saving solutions FREE.  We’ll insulate your attic access or install a cozy hot water heater blanket.
