Party Barn

An antique barn that was leaning 6 inches to the south, with drafty, bat-friendly doors was an entertaining test inside a tight remodeling schedule.

A “Big Party” deadline loomed as we faced the ultimate New England challenge- creating a living space with modern conveniences inside a cluster of three old barns.

Safety first, meant structural repairs: new roofs and a veneer stone support wall for a second level deck.

We made sensitive matching repairs to large timber posts, used original, two- inch thick Chestnut planking for kitchen counter tops, and carefully threaded new electric and plumbing through the open frame structure.

We repaired all openings, replacing windows and fixing barn doors to seal against country critters.

Finishing touches included dredging and landscaping the pond and capturing old foundation stones for serpentine, terraced gardens.
