2009 Best Whole House Award: Remodel - Northeast Region
In June, Hudson Valley Preservation was named winner of Best Whole House Remodel under $250,000 for its project in Bridgewater, CT for the design/build category.
HVP has won Chrysalis awards in CT and the Northeast for several years- 2003, 2006, and 2009. |

"HVP sets the gold standard in design, planning and execution of any project in which they are involved. This unusual combination of architectural vision, craftsmanship and high-quality customer service makes them unique in their industry."

The existing Bridgewater house was small (1400 sq.ft.) with a small, congested floor plan. The homeowners wanted more light, high ceilings and traditional architecture. The solution was to design an open floor plan including the kitchen, dining room and living room with neo-classical detailing to effect separate living spaces. More and larger windows were added, ceilings were vaulted, and 3 cramped bedrooms were altered into 2 bedrooms.
Using Chief Architect 3D design software, the design team and homeowners quickly and efficiently communicated design ideas and incorporated existing furnishings into the layout. This facilitated an efficient construction program with no changes. The project from the start of design to construction completion took 5 months. The building project implemented green building techniques, energy efficient windows and doors, which resulted in a sunny, comfortable and beautiful living space its residents can truly call “HOME”.
From the homeowners:
When you are working with people with expertise in taking old buildings and preserving their integrity while, at the same time, reducing the environmental footprint, you are getting more than people who just build houses. They took this sad little house and made it a gem. This team was able to take some elements of my dream house and build them into this little cottage.
From Planning to Process to Personnel, HVP truly is in a class by itself. Their professional staff has been able to balance an aggressive schedule with beautiful design and a strict budget. No detail is too small to escape the careful attention required. Advice when sought is complete, timely, candid and most helpful. Every person who worked on this project brought significant talent to the task at hand. At every step, Communication was clear, options were carefully explained and, all this occurred while working within a very tight timeline.

*The Chrysalis Awards program, begun in 1994, recognizes the nation’s best work in seventeen general categories of residential remodeling, as well as regional and national Remodeler of the Year winners. Entries are judged on overall design, the creative use of space and materials, and the degree to which the project enhanced the original structure.
