Re-model, Re-cycle.

Who better to fabricate re-cycling containers than a re-modeling company?
Dave Seegers, Hudson Valley Preservation partner, is a member of a Regional Recycling Task Force that researches and initiates recycling programs in the community.
The program is part of the Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority (HRRA), a regional, governmental, waste management and recycling authority for Western CT. |

Dave Seegers, Hudson Valley Preservation partner, with some of the recycle bins he designed for Sherman, CT's town recycling project. |
Athena Bradley, Projects Manager, Northeast Recycling Council, recently identified Sherman at a DEP meeting as a model for other CT towns in its recycling efforts in the schools, playing fields and parks- thanks to a very dedicated staff (and no budget)!
Ruth Byrnes, Sherman Recycling Coordinator, saw the need for town recycling containers and collaborated with Dave, a Sherman resident who then created and donate new containers from “used” materials and saved the town hundreds of dollars- which over time will reduce tons of plastic, glass, and aluminum from going into landfills and incineration plants. Placing recycling items in the right container reduces the cost to a town’s trash removal expenses.
Dave identified the standard dimensions for plastic bags Sherman uses in trash collection, and built containers to that spec, using tubular PVC painted green and rigid sheets of clear Plexiglas discarded from a job in Fishkill, NY. The Plexiglas-cut to size, was then anchored by a collar of leftover mahogany from a Sherman deck replacement project. Be on the lookout for these innovative recycling containers at the town parks and ball fields this spring ….and use them!
Every litter bit helps. Join Sherman residents on April 26th for Roadside and Community Clean-up Day. Read more about Sherman's Cleanup Day (PDF 76k) or, call Laura at Hudson Valley Preservation: 860-355-0906.
